Valencian neighbourhood food guide

Valencia, Spain

Hola friends!

As you know, I lived in Valencia last year for many weeks. What you may not expect is that I’m still salivating thinking about the food consumed while I was living there. Valencia is surprisingly a real foodie-city.

This post can be used as a small guide for the best places to eat and drink at.

(If you’d like to see a post on Valencian street art, then click here.)

Enjoy looking at these photos – as usual if you have any questions or comments, just send me a comment. I read them all and respond to them all 🙂

Find this square – Plaza de la Virgen and turn your Google Maps on. Type in ‘Amorino’ and you will have found Valencia’s BEST ice-cream. http://www.amorino.com/

This is a little snapshot from my cute area, El Carmen where I lived.

This place, La Bernarda was virtually underneath my apartment and had the best paella in town I swear! https://www.facebook.com/labernardadetapineria/

IMG_5612

Sit here at La Bernarda and eat Valencia’s best paella with a homemade sangria and chill…. out……

Fireworks for Feria de Julio.

It’s always sangria time in Russafa.

Order yourself a freshly made gazpacho soup in one of the cafes and you won’t be disappointed. It’s cold and refreshing and made from cucumber and fresh tomatoes. You can also keep an eye out for the Menu del Dia which is usually a three course meal for under 10 euros.

If you come to Valencia and fail to have a freshly pressed juice or acai bowl here OR fail to try something else delicious and healthy on their menu, you have missed out big time! Type Almalibre into Google Maps. http://www.almalibreacaibar.es/

Head to the Mercado Central which is one of Valencia’s top tourist spots. You can buy just about anything there – but these two locally made craft beers were my favourite! https://www.mercadocentralvalencia.es/

Insanely good food and in a really stunning location. I think this used to be a large market hall which has now been renovated into a shiny and gorgeous new dinner destination with countless dinner options. Type in Mercado de Colon for the location and the best restaurant there is Ma Khin Cafe. http://www.makhincafe.com/

Hands down, best atmosphere and place for a night of drinking or eating in Russafa in Valencia. Taqueria La Llorona: http://taquerialallorona.com/

(ABOVE) Valencia’s most amazing Mexican restaurant. A Mexican lady even recommended this to me – that’s how I found out about it! http://taquerialallorona.com/

They were so loud and close – that would never have been allowed in Australia which is rules-ville.

Taronja, my language school was amazing. Each day they organised fun events for us Spanish kiddies to do! This was a rooftop beach bar paella and sangria party. Check out that rice!

There are so many bars in Russafa. In fact, if you’re looking for a place to go out – that’s where you need to head!

Fellow Australians, please hold your orgasms. Yes that’s a bucket of 5 Coronas for 5 euros. Hashtag SPAIN people.

The skinniest building in Valencia. Only 1.07 metres wide! If you visit the cafe to the right, (where that lady is sitting) make sure you ask for a cortado there. A yummy and strong way to start the day.

Thank you Taronja for organising such fun events for us kiddies! http://www.spanishcoursespain-valencia.com/

I think I must have eaten here around four times. It was simply the BEST Mexican I’ve tried. Please go. Please! http://taquerialallorona.com/

If you can find this castle in El Carmen (which should be pretty easy as it’s directly opposite the Mercado Central), there’s a cute little cafe owned by a Dutch man and a Norwegian woman. I’m bummed that I never found out the name of it but they had great coffee and tostada con tomate.

IMG_5854

I’m drinking a beautiful cold press coffee from an amazing coffee stand in the Mercado Central called Retrogusto Coffeemates. Definitely Valencia’s best coffee! https://www.facebook.com/Retrogusto-coffeemates-1008646869147945/

BAR & KITCHEN – best place for fresh drinks including juices, salads and nibbles. Really stylish and modern interior and design too. Sadly no link for you but it’s in El Carmen so Google that and enjoy!

Thanks for the reassurance! To be truthful I’m slightly scared! I have traveled by myself a lot (I work as a Qantas F/A) yet somehow this experience is really freaking me out! I’m really hopeful it’s the right decision 🙂

If you want some more reassurance, you can send me an email with your exact worries and I’ll help you out 🙂 I was nervous before going but I had an awesome time. Make sure you find a flat to live in in El Carmen – best area!!!
