G’day MATE.
Before you scroll down, please know that first of all I’m an Australian and this was my first time visiting the 12 Apostles. I had seen lots of photos and had a fair idea that the scenery would be grand…. but I certainly did not expect what I discovered that day.
There must have been something in the air. Maybe it was the mixture of overcast clouds and a nippy wind which echoed the sound of the waves. As we stood at our final destination on the Great Ocean Road, overlooking the Apostles – we closed our mouths and opened our eyes. Sometimes you really have the feeling that Mother Nature is the only thing able to move you to your core. She puts on quite a show from time to time. That’s one of the reasons I recommend all visiting tourists in Oz to come here. It was nothing short of grand.
As you can see from the pictures, even on a cloudy day, the colours are still wonderful. It looked like a kind of oil painting but in real life.
The Twelve Apostles is a collection of limestone stacks off the shore of the Port Campbell National Park, by the Great Ocean Road in Victoria,Australia. Their proximity to one another has made the site a popular tourist attraction. Currently there are eight apostles left, the ninth one of the stacks collapsed dramatically in July 2005. The name remains significant and spectacular especially in the Australian tourism industry. (Wikipedia)
We started the day trip by hiring a car in Melbourne’s CBD and then drove for about two hours through the Victorian countryside before we hit The Great Ocean Road. It’s is a massive road which completely follow’s Victoria’s southern coastline. The GOR a wonderful drive and a real must-see if you’re visiting Australia. We stopped along the way for burgers and coffees and continued on our way to the 12 Apostles. From memory the drive directly back to Melbourne was around 3.5-4 hours.
