Bonjour fellow Kaptain Kenny readers!
Today I’m sending you to Marseille, a classic city in Southern-France.
Yes yes yes…. Marseille gets an incredibly bad rap for being a city full of violence and crime. Honestly, unless you wander around with your camera hanging out of your backpack and you are throwing money around like a loose Playboy, I really don’t know how people get robbed in places like this.
In fact, I found Marseille to be pleasantly adorable. I had read a few negative things online but my French friend had invited me so I was going to come regardless – and I’m so glad I did! As you’ll see from my picture-storybook below, the city is extremely photogenic. Lots of twists and turns reveal my favourite type of scene – sun, hanging washing and dishevelled buildings.
I visited in August so there was certainly enough heat to warrant singlet and shorts for during the day time, however at night it did get kind of nippy. Admittedly we were staying at my friend’s farmhouse *at a vineyard* so it was a little cooler than the city anyway.
Like always, I’d prefer to not yap on and let my pictures tell you the story. If you have any questions or comments, please leave me a message. I read them all!

Ciao for now.

What a picturesque little scene!!!

I am such a sucker for homes with these types of windows.

Enjoying the Southern French sunshine.

Harbour time.

Derelict buildings + street art – my favourite!

I dare you to try and hate that!

Cool streets.

I’m also a sucker for photographing the way people do their washing.

Sunshine and hot, hot heat.

It’s so nice to be near water on a hot day.

Stahp! Too cute.

I would say this is the more ‘wealthy’ part of Marseille where the majority of tourists are, including where the richest people live.

Fanatic for viewing people’s laundry 🙂

Enjoying being shown around by three real, beautiful French ladies <3

More washing! This is becomming an obsession.

My Frenchie in her natural environment.

No caption?

Marseille: rough and ragged.

My favourite for the day!

This sunset was worth the arduous journey up to the top of the big hill. And no I do not remember the name of that ‘big hill’ – sorry 🙁

If you want to find out the name of this hill to watch the sunset, you just need to find this cathedral. Good luck!

April 21, 2016 at 7:53 ami think marseille looks beautiful and id go there in a heartbeat. i would have said the opposite a few years back though. i had a chef i worked with at the cafe in norway who was from there. we butted heads and one day he left me a drawing of the statue of liberty burning in flames. i had to cordially remind him that his country gifted mine with the statue of liberty so that should be more offensive to him than me. took us a year to make amends and then i decided id visit marseille one day hahah. i like places that others deem a little grittier (their way of saying dangerous). they have a lot of character and interesting people more often than not 🙂

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised with Marseille! It just goes to show you shouldn’t always rely on what information you find online. I was lucky to have a local guide though 🙂
