The Aran Islands are to the west of Ireland’s mainland. There are three islands and these pictures are from the largest island called Inishmore which is where most people tend to go.
Hop on a bus from Galway (if you book with Lally tours, they will organise everything for you.) which will drive you to a ferry that takes you straight there in 50 minutes. It’s very simple, I promise.
We were lucky with the weather but we were told to bring all sorts of clothing ‘just in case’. I don’t think I’ve ever known a day to be this perfect in Ireland actually. It beat all those common weather misconceptions that you could possibly have in mind.
Inishmore was sparsely populated – it truly felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. We hired two bikes and zipped around during 6 hours completely at our leisure. We passed horses and carts and spoke to some very cute locals, some of whom were seventh-generation Aran Islanders.
What does this mean exactly? Many years ago, this piece of land was connected to Ireland’s mainland however, these days it’s not. The Aran Islands are some of the only spots left in Ireland where the native language is Irish Gaelic. If you are a language *nerd* like me, you will bask in the glory that is being surrounded by a completely new language. It was a delight to my ears.
Take a look through the photos and enjoy. If you have any questions or need some tips, give us a shout. Happy to help!

November 1, 2015 at 3:54 amThis place is simply breathtaking. I was at galway but didn’t have enough time for Aran islands. I feel this place is so sacred that you really need to be in right time to visit it 🙂 Glad to see the pictures above.
